Faith-Based Initiative
"Though a
man might prevail against one who is
alone, two will withstand him. A
threefold cord is not quickly broken."
Ecclesiastes 4:12
Although this quote is
taken from the Judeo-Christian scriptures, it reflects a belief of all
faith-based communities. There is a Higher Power that gives us the ability
to join together and the strength to overcome what we cannot face alone.
The wave of violence
which has flooded our city streets is a formidable force that would
threaten to overcome us with fear and despair. But this situation also can
be an opportunity for institutions of higher faiths to come together
empowering Philadelphians to reclaim our destiny as the City of Brotherly
Love and Sisterly Affection.
Mothers In Charge is
mobilizing congregations throughout the city to make a difference in the
following ways:
- Invite Mothers
In Charge to come speak to your congregation or as part of a special
event or speaker's series - especially those events that would reach
youth as well as adults.
- Inform Mothers
In Charge of the youth programs sponsered by your congregation so that
youth in the city can know of positive activities in their community and
places they can connect with other positive youths.
- If your
congregation does not have an active youth program, inform youth in your
congregation about Mothers In Charge so that they can connect with
others.
- Offer your
space to Mothers In Charge for "town meetings" so that they can come and
share their story with the community and mobilize neighborhoods for
action.
- Consider
joining other faith-based and community institutions in developing and
promoting collaborative anti-violence programs throughout the city.
- Encourage
members of your faith-based community to march with Mothers In Charge in
demonstrations and/or write to our legislators regarding anti-violence
legislation pending at all levels of government.
- Keep Mothers
In Charge in prayer.
