Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership

Background

Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership (AVRP) program is an after school initiative designed to prevent delinquency among adolescents. It is geared toward children between 10 and 15 years old. Case management is offered in addition to after school activities.  Read the 2006 Community Report Card.

Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership (AVRP)

Can AVRP Help My Child?
AVRP serves youth between the ages of 10 and 15 who
 

·        Have a prior arrest under age 13.

·        Have been arrested within past 12 months.

·        Were victims of violence.

·        Have an incarcerated parent or sibling.

·        Live in a household with abuse or neglect.

·        Live in a household with domestic violence.

·        4 Had family member or friend murdered. Have a history of running away.

·        Have been homeless within past 12 months.

·        Have eight unexcused absences from school within one year.

·        Have been suspended three or more times or expelled within past year

Our Youth Need Us - Consider these Facts about Violence in Philadelphia:


- Youth are entering the foster care system for delinquent behavior at high rates.
- Juvenile violent crime arrests are increasing.
- So are the number of homicide victims between the ages of 7 and 17

Violence is everybody's problem. We all must work together to stop it. By taking an active role in our communities, we can help to reduce violence in Philadelphia.

- Organize or join a town watch group
- Seek help for troubled youth
- Report truant youth
- Share tips and turn in weapons through the Gun Recovery Reward Information Program
(G.R.R.I.P.)

- Meeting youth on the street at their hangouts
- Regular and Intensive supervision
- A constant presence in high-risk neighborhoods
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution
